The 14 Days Adventure Rwanda Safari commences and winds-up within Kigali City and the activities to expect are gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, canopy walk, guided forest hiking, Golden Monkey Tracking, cultural tours, visit to the sacred forest of Buhanga, Gorilla Trekking, game Drives and boat rides among others.

Detailed 14 Days Rwanda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Airport pick-up and drop-off at a Hotel in Kigali

Arrival at Kanombe International Airport and be driven to a Hotel in Kigali City for Lunch, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, in south-western Rwanda for chimp treks

Breakfast and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park through the awe-inspiring rolling hills and cultivated countryside, en-route make a stop at the Nyanza Royal Palace for the comprehensive history and culture of Rwanda. Also tour the Cultural Museum of Rwesero and continue with the journey until Butare Town for Lunch. Continue to the Park Visitor Center, arriving in the afternoon for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest and guided canopy walk

Early morning breakfast at your Lodge and go for the chimp trek with your packed Lunch, drinking water and necessary trekking gear. Chimpanzee trekking in the lush Nyungwe Forest lasts 1-4 hours and you will not only see chimpanzees but also primate species-vervet monkeys, Angolan colobus monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys in addition to bird species. Lunch is in the middle of the forest and return back to the Lodge for relaxation.

In the afternoon return to Uwinka Visitor Center for briefing and start the guided canopy walk suspended through tall tree canopies for exploring bird species, primates and other residents of the Park. Get back to the Lodge with memories of the forest and be served dinner, latter dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Guided forest walk/hike to see waterfalls, birds and mammals in Nyungwe Forest

Embark on another exploration of the forest through one of the 13 hiking trails to encounter the different tree species, birds especially the Rwenzori Turaco, Handsome spurfowl, Rwenzori nightjar, Great blue Turaco and black and white casqued hornbills, primates-black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons, grey-cheeked mangabeys, Angola colobus monkeys and L’Hoests monkeys, waterfalls and wetlands. Spend half the day in the forest and get back to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon take a guided walk through the lush Gisakura tea Estate at the edge of Nyungwe Forest, to learn about tea growing, harvesting, processing and packaging. Aldo taste the tea and return for dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Kibuye area on the shores of Lake Kivu for a boat ride

On Day 5 of this safari, have breakfast and transfer to the Kibuye area on the pristine shores of Lake Kivu. This is the largest Lake in Rwanda and while here, you will undertake the adventurous boat ride to its beautiful Islands. The boat ride not only rewards you with views of the birds and mammal species (especially Otters) but also tour of the L’Esperance Orphanage within Kigarama Village.

Charity causes during Rwandan safari are one of the most fulfilling activities and after this drive back to the Lodge on the shores of the Lake for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Transfer to Gisenyi Area via Congo – Nile Trail for community projects

Breakfast and proceed with your trip to Gisenyi Town, also on the stunning views of Lake Kivu and is another fantastic place for relaxation. For this journey, you will get a chance to explore the Congo-Nile Trail with outstanding tourist sites and check-in at a lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon visit the nearby community projects with interact with locals especially artisans, honey projects, basket weaving projects where you will purchase some souvenirs and return for dinner and overnight stay at the Lodge.

Day 7: Guided tour through Buhanga Eco-Park

Have breakfast and with packed Lunch and luggage be led to Buhanga Eco-Park, a sacred forest popular for its biological and cultural significance, as it is where Rwandan Kings performed cultural rituals and coronation ceremonies. The walk is definitely strenuous as visitors are required to walk along trails made from cut Lave stones under towering trees.

Several bird and butterfly species will be encountered in addition to significant cultural sites such as the small ditch where King’s helpers would pick herbs for the King to shower, the dark Cave where the King was wheeled in a Royal carriage and the conference podium with hard well-cut lava rocks and chairs where the King would be lifted to after taking the Royal bathe to receive instruments of power, protection from gods as well as blessings and long life. After this magical encounter, be driven to Red Rocks for dinner and homestay.

Day 8: Drive to Volcanoes National Park, home of mountain gorillas in Rwanda

Enjoy a typical African breakfast at the Red Rocks homestay and embark on a transfer to Volcanoes National Park. En-route have Lunch and visit the Gorilla Guardian Village for a breathtaking interactive experience on Rwandan unique way of life, culture and traditions.

Get to see and enjoy some of the traditions that define people of Rwanda and continue to the Lodge, on the outskirts of Volcanoes National Park for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and canoe ride at the Twin Lakes

This is the highlight of the 14 days Adventure Rwanda Safari. Early in the morning after a wonderful breakfast at the Lodge, registration and briefing from Park Officials set off for the amazing gorilla trek. The experience of trekking mountain gorilla is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity and for this activity, armed rangers will lead you through the dense rainforest to search for the mountain gorillas. Walk through deep forest, down rugged terrain until finally getting up-close with the great apes and be amazed by their daily routine for one hour. The entire activity can last 2-6 hours and later return back to the Lodge in the afternoon for Lunch.

The best way to rejuvenate after the strenuous gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park is to undertake a boat Ride on the Twin Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. These Lakes are separated by a narrow strip of Land extending for 1 kilometer. Be amazed by the jaw-dropping rolling hills that form the backdrop of these Lakes, the lush Islands and unique bird species that call the Lakes and Islands home.

Day 10: Golden Monkey Tracking and tour of Musanze Caves

Breakfast on day 10 ushers you into another great activity in Volcanoes National Park. Meet fellow trekkers and rangers at the Park Headquarters for briefing on the guidelines of trekking the golden monkeys. This activity takes a shorter time (2-3) hours within the Bamboo forest and get back to the Lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon be driven to Musanze Caves, 2 kilometers long below the Earth surface with walkways, stairs and trails to explore its interior. Later get back to your Lodge for a buffet dinner and overnight stay while relishing the views of the dense forest and singing bird species.

Day 11: Drive to Akagera National Park

Leave for Akagera national park after breakfast with en-route visit of Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site and arrive in the afternoon for Lunch. After this lunch and short relaxation, embark on a drive to Akagera National Park for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 12: Game drive through the Northern Circuit and boat ride at Lake Ihema

Breakfast served at the Lodge and set out to the Northern circuit for a game drive to search for the unique wildlife species that call this Park home such as big five animals (Rhinos, elephants, leopards, buffaloes and lions), warthogs, Topis, Kobs, Defassa waterbucks, Masai giraffes, common elands, Hippos, bushbucks and sitatunga.

However, it is not a guarantee that all the listed wildlife species will be encountered during the game drive but you will be surprised by what this Park offers. Lunch at the Lodge and in the afternoon head out for the boat ride on Lake Ihema for Hippos and crocodiles.

Day 13: Guided bush walks and return to Kigali City

Guided nature walks follow breakfast and offers views of bird species, primates-especially black and white colobus monkeys and olive baboons and return back to the Lodge for Lunch. Begin your journey to Kigali City and drop-off at a Hotel.

Day 14: City excursion and departure

Breakfast at the Hotel in Kigali City then start the tour of top tourist sites in the City then be transferred to the Airport for flight back home or any other location in the City.
