Detailed Mount Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking Itinerary
Day 1: Drive from Goma Town to Kibati Ranger Post for Nyiragongo Hike
Visitors are expected at Grande Barriere Border Crossing by 6:30am for check-in with the Virunga Tourism Office. This is on the scheduled day of the Nyiragongo Volcano hike and by 8:00am, you should have finalized with the entire check-in process. The Virunga Tourism Office is suitably found within the Grande Barriere Border Post building, just adjacent to the passport Control Office. It is during this check-in process that you will receive your Volcano hiking permit and Congo Tourist Visa that you will present at the briefing point.
Once check-in at the Virunga Tourism Office is finalized, visitors can then be driven to Kibati Ranger Post for the start of the Nyiragongo Volcano hike. Make sure to carry packed Lunch and enough drinking water without forgetting to hire porters. Climbing begins at 10:00am after briefing, and reach the summit of Nyiragongo after 4-6 hours of hiking and spend overnight at the summit shelters/cabins relishing views of the blazing hot Crater as well as neighboring Volcanoes. Marvel at the boiling Lava at the summit of Nyiragongo Volcano and take as many photos as you can.
Day 2: Descend from the summit of Nyiragongo Volcano and drive back to Goma Town
Have breakfast on the summit of Nyiragongo Volcano at about 3470 meters above sea level and begin descending back to Kibati Ranger Post at about 6:00am. Once at the bottom/base of the Volcano, visitors are driven back to Goma Town with drop-off at Grande Barrier Border Post. This marks the end of our Nyiragongo Package.
