Detailed 4 Days Bwindi Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On the first day of your gorilla safari, be picked-up from the Hotel or Airport after a meet and greet with your private Safari driver. Before embarking on your trip to the south of Uganda, be briefed on the itinerary then begin your journey through verdant landscapes, en-route towns and roadside markets.

Make a stop at Uganda equator for 30 minutes of photography, equator experimentation and buy snacks then proceed to Igongo cultural center for lunch. Proceed to Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for dinner, refreshment and overnight stay.

Buhoma sector is situated within the North of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and boasts of up to four amazing habituated gorilla groups that are open for trekking all year round. These groups are Katwe, Mubare, Habinyanja and Rushegura thus 32 gorilla permits are available each day.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

Wake up early for breakfast on this morning and head to the Buhoma park headquarters for registration and briefing on the guidelines of trekking the mountain gorillas. Be assigned to a habituated gorilla group to trek and off you set off in the company of armed ranger guides and porters.

Immediately the search for habituated gorilla group in the jungles begins and along the way be delighted in the forest residents-elephants, bushbucks, forest buffaloes, duikers, giant forest hogs, primates – olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys and chimpanzees in addition to birds and butterflies.

Gorilla Treks last from as short as half an hour to as long 6 hours, depending on the location of the allocated gorilla group. After finding the allocated gorilla group, you have one hour of observation and photography as they live their normal lives.

Return back to the Park Headquarters to pick your trekking certificate and straight to the lodge for lunch before transferring to the eastern region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is where your second gorilla trek will be based.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park

After breakfast on day 3 of your double gorilla safari, prepare for yet another thrilling encounter with mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Located in the East of Bwindi, Ruhija sector is haven to four habituated gorilla groups but only three are trekked while the remaining one is set for research purposes. Continue to the park headquarters for briefing by Park wardens and start the trek through the jungle thereafter.

Traverse densely forested and misty hillsides marked by numerous birds, animals, butterflies and tree species and within 30 minutes to 4 hours, you will be amidst these amazing great apes. Observation, photography and asking any gorilla-related questions takes one hour and return back to your lodge for lunch.

Your afternoon is for transfers to the pristine shores of Lake Bunyonyi for a guided community walk or boat ride to the different Islands of the lake. A wonderful and unforgettable way to end your hectic gorilla trekking day.

Day 4: Back to Entebbe/Kampala & Departure

Begin your journey back to Entebbe or Kampala after a wonderful breakfast and make en-route stops at Mbarara Town for lunch and Mpambire drum makers for souvenirs to remind you of the unforgettable African trip. This marks the end of your 4 days Double Gorilla Trek Bwindi.
