Our 4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda offers you the once in a lifetime chance of trekking mountain gorillas twice in Volcanoes National Park, in the north-western part of the country. For this gorilla safari, you will be viewing two different habituated gorilla groups in addition to enjoying the remarkable views of the breathtaking Virunga Mountains.
The 4 Days Double Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park kicks-off and winds-up from the city of Kigali and also includes two other incredible activities – boat rides on the Twin Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo as well as visiting to the Gorilla Guardian Village.
Detailed 4 Days Rwanda 2 Gorilla Treks Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at the Airport of Kigali and scenic drive to north – west of Rwanda
You will get picked up from the Airport upon setting foot in Rwandan soil. You will meet our company representative who will be your driver/guide for the next four days of the safari.
He will brief you on the trip, hand-over the necessary documents, receipts and gorilla permits then head northwards to the spectacular Volcanoes National Park. A team of Lodge staff will be waiting to receive you at your place of stay, serve delicious meals and later in the evening overnight stay.
Day 2: First unforgettable gorilla trekking experience and boat ride on the Twin Lakes
At 6:00am, breakfast at your Safari Lodge and 6:30am await transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for pre-tracking registration and briefing. This will be done by your safari driver/guide and on arrival at the park headquarters, you will meet other trekkers eagerly waiting for the adventurous trek, then attend briefing after which be allocated a habituated gorilla group.
Trekking time is greatly unpredictable but can be between half an hour to 6 hours depending on the allocated group. You will have one hour with the mountain gorillas and the Park ranger assigned for the trek will ensure that you are in the best position to capture captivating Photos as well as experiencing the stunning scenery properly. Later drive back to the Lodge for a sumptuous Lunch, refreshment and unwinding.
Later in the afternoon after reviving your energy head for a boat ride on the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, on the base of the Muhabura Volcano and adjacent to the Rwanda-Uganda border. These beautiful Lakes are separated by only 1 kilometer strip of Land and shelter numerous bird species that will be explored during the boat ride. Retreat to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay while enjoying views of the Virunga Mountains and the verdant forest.
Day 3: Second captivating gorilla trekking experience & Cultural tour at Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village
Go through the same process of preparation-breakfast, reporting at the Volcanoes National Park Headquarters but this time trekking a different habituated gorilla group. After encountering them, you will then be driven back to your lodge for lunch and refreshment.
Later in the afternoon, be transferred to the Gorilla Guardian Village (famously known as Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village) for an insight into the traditional lifestyle of Rwandan people. These are food growing, processing, storage and preparation, interesting dress code, traditional marriage ceremonies, local beer brewing, use of herbal medicine and climaxed with energetic cultural dance performances.
Day 4: Return back to Kigali for city excursion and departure flight
Delicious breakfast at the Lodge by 8:00am, pack your bags and check-out of the Lodge for a drive back to Kigali City. Upon arrival, visit some of the popular tourist sites such as Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center, craft markets to purchase souvenirs and many others.
Continue to Kigali International Airport for your return flight and this marks the end of your 4 days Double Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda.
