Detailed Lowland Gorillas & Chimpanzee Trekking Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from the City of Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park and do a canopy walk
7:00am, be ready for a pick-up from the Hotel or any other location in Kigali City for a 6-7 hours’ drive south-east of Rwanda. This is where your adventurous safari begins and the journey involves making a stop at Nyanza King’s Palace and Butare Museum for an introduction to Rwanda’s cultural and historical background. En-route Lunch and proceed to the Park for the start of your invigorating activities.
Connect to Uwinka Reception Center for briefing on the canopy walk that begins at 2pm. This canopy walk lasts about 2 hours and involves walking along a 200-meter long bridge suspended about 45 meters from the forest floor and tree canopies. Look out for the birds, butterflies and different primate species during the canopy walk. Also, you will enjoy a feel of fresh air during this activity then drive back to the booked Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking Experience in Nyungwe Forest and drive to Bukavu Town
Breakfast served at the Lodge as early as 6:00am then be picked up by your driver guide for a transfer to Gisakura Reception for registration and briefing about the chimp trek. You will be allocated to one of the two habituated chimpanzee troops then assigned a Park Ranger guide. Tracking for chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest lasts 1-4 hours depending on the location of the allocated chimpanzee troop. One hour is the time allowed to watch and take pictures of these Great Apes, closest relatives to humans to be amazed by their human-like behavior as they play, forage, mate, rest, show care and affection, nurse their babies and assert authority.
To capture the best shots, you might require following them, sitting down and after this experience, get back to the lodge for lunch. Embark on a transfer to Bukavu Town with border crossing at Rusizi border point and on arrival relax, have dinner, refreshment and overnight stay.
Day 3: Drive to Kahuzi-Biega National Park for lowland gorilla trek experience

After this fruitful trek for the eastern lowland gorillas, retreat to Bukavu town for late lunch and spend the remainder of the evening to relax at the Hotel Lounge with a novel and sipping wine.
Day 4: Return back to Kigali City, via the lush Nyungwe Forest
Breakfast and return back to the City of Kigali through Rusizi border point and Nyungwe Forest National Park where you will experience a different feeling of fresh air in addition to encountering several bird species.
This journey lasts 6-7 hours and involves en-route lunch and arrival in the evening for a drop off at any location in Kigali (airport or hotel). This marks the end of your 4 days Kahuzi-Biega & Nyungwe forest safari.
