Detailed 5 Days Rwanda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Akagera National Park
On arrival at Kigali, our Company guide will be waiting to pick you up from the Airport for a transfer to a good City restaurant or hotel for lunch. After this amazing lunch, be taken through some of the City’s phenomenal tourist sites and the time spent here depends on your arrival time. Later embark on your journey to Akagera National Park, home to the big five animals (elephants, leopards, Rhinos, buffaloes and lions), Masai giraffes, Defassa waterbucks, Oribis, warthogs, Topis, Common elands and many others, in addition to over 500 species of birds.
Some of the bird species to expect in this Park are shoebill storks, Papyrus gonolek, grey-crowned cranes, African fish eagles and many others. Be at the park by sunset for dinner and overnight stay at the booked lodge.
Day 2: Wildlife viewing and Boat ride on Lake Ihema
You will have an entire day to range over the boundless plains of Akagera National Park through game drives to discover the unique wildlife species that call the Park home. This Park is one of the few places to encounter big five animals, black and white colobus monkeys, Masai giraffes, olive baboons, Topis, Vervet monkeys, Defassa waterbucks and many others.
This activity lasts 3-4 hours and is followed by a hefty Lunch at the Lodge.
In the afternoon undertake a boat ride on the calm waters of Lake Ihema where you will come close to numerous hippos and crocodiles as well as several bird species. Feel free to ask questions during the boat ride ending at sunrise. More wildlife species will be encountered and drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Travel to Volcanoes National Park
You will leave Akagera National Park and transfer to Volcanoes National Park after breakfast. You will first drive back to Kigali and undertake another city excursion to places that were not visited during the first city tour.
Have lunch within the city and continue to Rwanda’s only gorilla trekking destination, which is based in Rwanda’s Northern Province.
Day 4: Trek one of the habituated gorilla groups and visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village
Have breakfast and have a chance to trek one of the habituated gorilla groups in Volcanoes National Park. Briefing is conducted from Kinigi Park Headquarters, followed by venturing into the jungles to search for the allocated habituated gorilla group. The search for the gorillas takes 1-5 hours but is climaxed by spending one hour with them before returning back to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon prepare yourself for another exciting moment during your safari. Your cultural tour will involve spending hours at Iby’Iwacu cultural village. While here, you will experience a unique way of life-from the traditional meals, beer brewing processes, cultural dance performances and many others. Dinner and overnight stay will be on your return to the Lodge.
Day 5: Tour of the twin lakes, Transfer to Kigali City and off to the Airport
Have breakfast and set off for a tour of the twin lakes through a boat ride to explore the different verdant Islands with their colorful bird species. Get back to the lodge for lunch and pack your bags, ready for a transfer to Kigali City.
Later be dropped off at the Hotel or Airport for the scheduled flight to the next destination. This marks the end of your 5 days Rwanda gorilla trek & wildlife tour.
